As you may have heard the Motorola DROID’s 2.1 update has been delayed to a TBD date. I will be sure to keep posted on this. On my daily phone I will wait for the OTA, while on my other (I got it from the Chicago GTUG) DROID I will download the update and install it manually. Motorola already said that its new CLIQ XT Android phone would be available sometime this month when it let us get our hands on the phone last week, but it unfortunately didn’t get very specific about an actual date or a price. If this seemingly authentic slide obtained by TmoToday is any indication, however, it looks like the Blur-skinned handset will hit retail on March 17th (tomorrow), and run $99 on a two-year contract (or $199 for a year). That places it right in line with the current pricing of the original CLIQ, which would seem to be prime for a price drop if it’s sticking around.
HCL and Motorola have inked an agreement to jointly bid for next-generation secured radio connectivity projects in India which several of the state government and police departments are now planning to implement. The two companies feel the potential deal pipeline for such projects will be in excess of Rs 1,000 crore over the next two years.
This comes inline with the HCL-Motorola combine winning the Rs 100-crore contract to implement a secured radio network for the Delhi government ahead of the up-coming Commonwealth Games.
HCL and Motorola aim to benefit from each other’s respective specialisation in system integration and communication technology.
HCL and Motorola has already bid for the tender floated by Daman police and is also in talks with Bangalore police.The Economic Times

While the vast majority of updates were successful, a very small number of consumers reported a date error and found that, after factory resetting their device, their phone was not functioning properly. We have identified a workaround solution for these consumer

Here are some of our initial thoughts:
Verizon and Motorola have also at last confirmed all the leaks about the price and retail rollout: the phone goes on sale this Thursday (the 25th) for $150 at Best Buy, and will then hit Verizon stores in March for $150 after a $100 mail-in rebate. Buyers will also need to sign up for a Nationwide Talk plan and the $30 unlimited data package, part of Verizon’s new-ish smartphone plan restrictions — though really, you’re not going to get much done on this phone without a data plan.
Update: We got some bad information, and now have the official Best Buy pricing straight from Best Buy’s Facebook page: The Devour will retail for $99 starting on February 25th, but the Droid will also be dropped to $99, and the Droid Eris is going to be free from Big Blue. Meanwhile, Verizon is sticking to its $149 pricetag at its own stores, which involves a $100 rebate. (Thanks to everyone who pointed this out).

You may have spent a fortune on that brand new laptop. But technology is evolving at a fast pace, and your laptop will invariably feel old in a couple of years. It is, therefore, imperative that you buy a model you will be comfortable with for as long as you want to keep it.
Basic Laptops
Before buying a notebook make a realistic assessment of your requirements. Are you a compulsive gamer? Do you tend to watch lots of HD video on your computer? Most users have pretty limited needs that extend only to web surfing and word processing. Any laptop available in the market can meet these requirements. So there is no need to spend thousands of dollars on a high end machine. Besides cost, the other factors that need to be considered are portability and usability.
Do you travel a lot? Mobile professionals need a thin and light machine they can carry around. Netbooks are a good choice for them. These machines are incredibly popular now. They are ultraportable with 9 or 10 inch screens. Another reason behind the popularity of netbooks is their price. These are cheap computers. But buying a netbook isn’t a very bright idea if the machine is intended to be your primary computer. Compared to mainstream laptops, netbooks have much less powerful hardware. And the small screen size may strain your eyes if you use it for extended periods.
Upgrading
Upgrading a laptop isn’t totally impossible, but it isn’t very easy either. All laptops have some parts that cannot be replaced at all because they are soldered to the motherboard. Chief among the components that can’t usually be replaced are CPU and Graphics cards. There are of course some parts that can be replaced and they include hard drive and RAM.
Laptop Components
Laptop components are mini versions of their desktop counterparts. They are pricier than desktop components, but they aren’t necessarily more powerful. In fact, laptops tend to be less powerful than desktops. This is because laptop components usually run at slower speeds so as to reduce heat build-up inside the chassis.
Processor/CPU
The processor/CPU inside a computer has the greatest impact on system speeds. Intel and AMD are currently the leading CPU manufacturers. There are other chip-makers too, but they usually cater to the lower-end of the spectrum. Intel processors deliver slightly better performance than AMD processors, but they are also pricier than their AMD counterparts.
Graphics Card/GPU
The graphics card/GPU is an integral part of a gaming laptop. If you are not an avid gamer, then you don’t have to buy a laptop with a discrete GPU. But remember that having a GPU will be helpful while running photo and video editing applications and playing HD video. If you tend to play a lot of games, you should buy a laptop with a discrete ATI or NVIDIA graphics. Intel processors usually come with an integrated graphics solution such as the GMA950 or 4500MHD, but these are practically useless for playing graphics rich modern games.
RAM (Memory)
RAM stands for Random Access Memory. Having sufficient RAM is extremely essential for getting good performance from your laptop. For instance, you will not be able to run multiple applications simultaneously if you do not have enough RAM. So how much RAM is necessary? Well, it depends upon your exact needs. Most netbooks come with 1GB of RAM. Higher-end models will usually have 3GB or 4GB of RAM. Laptops with 8GB and 16GB of RAM are also available at the moment. 1GB of RAM is usually sufficient if you are an average user.
Storage
How much storage space you need depends upon how you use the computer. If you only store spreadsheets and your office documents, you will not need much space. But if you use your laptop to store movies, music and photos you will need to buy a model with a large hard drive. Basic laptops usually come with 80GB or 160GB hard drives. Pricier models with 500GB or 640GB of hard drives are also available.

I had to put up with “in-house isn’t good enough” from a lot of naysayers at IBM, Motorola, DiVosta Homes, Pulte Homes, and Minto – where I had in-house agencies.
The silly charge never made any sense:

Here is letter, sent to Rep Don Armes by a constituent regarding HB 3209;
Mr. Armes,
I would like to take (NOT ASK) a little bit of your time regarding HB 3209. I as a citizen of these United States of America and my beloved state of Oklahoma hereby assert my view regarding HB 3209. I, Mr. Armes have been hitting the snooze button regarding our Federal, State and Local Governments, but as of about 4 months ago I threw out my alarm clock. For now I am awake and informed!
With everything going on in American Politics, how can you explain authoring or even supporting HB 3209. This bill is completely unconstitutional, HB 3209 is an infringement on Amendment 1, Amendment 4 and Amendment 10 of the United States Bill of Rights. You , Sir are trying to slip this bill through without your own district knowledge, but don’t worry if this bill isn’t removed from the floor you will and your constituents will be able to see the bill in the Lawton Constitution for I will personally buy an ad for the Sunday paper and high-light key points of your bill.
Mr. Armes your have been voted into office to PROTECT our freedoms NOT INFRINGE upon them.
I hereby request a response to this email by the end of the business day Thursday 2-4-2010. I am Demanding NOT requesting your response, for if your response is not received by 2-4-2010 you will be able to read my response in Sundays edition of the Lawton Constitution.

No. HB 3209- is a carbon copy of SB 483 (which is still alive in the legislature this session)
SB 483 states
“The Commissioner of Public Safety is authorized to establish procedures and enter into agreements with any other law enforcement agency of this state or political subdivision of this state for the purpose of providing direct electronic access to the photograph or image in computerized format of any person who has been issued a driver license or identification card by the Department of Public Safety.”
Last session many Oklahomans went out of their way to meet with, email, and call their Representatives and makes sure that they understood what this bill would do. Our legislators were given more than just opinions-we gave them facts to back them up. Hours were spent by many researching government projects, searching for documents, schematics and more to prove what was behind this innocuous sounding bill. Our representatives, thankfully, did listen to us and the tide turned against SB 483. It was not presented to the floor for a hearing likely because the necessary support for the bill was lacking and a failed vote would have taken it out of play for the next two years.
The people of this state and many of the members of the House of Representatives are to be commended because as soon as they began to balk at SB 483 the OK County Sheriff tried to intervene.
Some members of the OK House of Representatives received the below email from Sheriff Whetsel advising them that the concern of Oklahoma residents about SB 483 were not legitimate. Without providing any evidence for his claims but instead relying on the considerable clout of his position, he negated every one of our well founded assertions.
Opponents of SB 483 said;
(Real Time Surveillance. This means simply that as events occur (real time) and progress you can be identified remotely and your whereabouts, transactions, and activities can be watched or recorded. How SB 483 would make this possible is by biometrics, specifically your facial biometric)
Sheriff Whetsel claimed;
The digitized photo is not biometric data”
Biometric means a measurement of the body (also unique characteristics like your gait and signature) A fingerprint is a well known biometric. Face recognition technology has some unique characteristics that make it most desirable for government to utilize.
The statement below made in a primer on biometrics by the National Law Enforcement and Corrections Technology Center -A program of the National Institute of Justice, illustrates why facial biometric collection is such an attractive option to government;
“A clear advantage of face recognition technology is that images can be captured without physical contact; devices could become valuable surveillance tools.” (2007)

The Bottom Line?
In a strictly technical sense, our digital photos are considered a biometric sample until processed by software such as Viisage’s faceEXPLORER, which is what the Oklahoma DMV uses. Once it has been processed by the software it becomes what is now referred to by technicians as biometric data.
The only ones who would use such precise terminology are generally the people dealing with the technical aspects of biometrics. Our lawmakers are not technicians and would more than likely take Sheriff Whetsel’s statement to mean that the picture is only a picture and would not be utilized as a biometric. That assumption is entirely wrong! The DMV photos are taken, processed in a manner intended to be used as a biometric to enable facial recognition capability
2007-FBI Seeks to Build Massive Identification System. The Federal Bureau of Investigation awarded a $1B, 10-year contract to design, develop, document, integrate, test, and deploy the Next Generation Identification (NGI) System to Lockheed Martin. This new database will expand on the current fingerprint-based system; the FBI will increase its collection and storage not only fingerprints but also iris scans, palm prints and facial images.

While law enforcement has long had the capability to share criminal justice information via the NLETS system, important expansion and alterations in information sharing as well as advancements in technology has taken place since 9 11 that require a serious examination of this process
In the past fingerprints and in recent years DNA was justifiably collected on criminal suspects upon probable cause or in the case of DNA, conviction. Also, such biometrics were collected and checked on a few other categories of individuals for justifiable reasons of security such as background checks or security clearances.
Now government has the capability and intent to collect, share and retain this and even more intrusive information on the population at large. Where do we draw the line?

Since last session we have more and more direct evidence that concerns about SB 483 (and now, HB 3209) are entirely valid.
The Memorandums that Sheriff Whetsel assured us were only creating agreements within state law enforcement agencies have been obtained and he is wrong. There is one, for example, between OK DPS and Germany for the direct exchange of driver’s license data.

Well it took some time but the Motorola Dext has finally reached our sunny shores, oddly without any trace of the Motorola Milestone yet.
I foresee that this phone will be able to attract the younger crowd seeking to stand out from the Blackberries and Apple iPhones. The physical qwerty keyboard also helps to give the phone a Sidekick feel.
Well I would have bought this phone if I have cash to spare and if I did not bear any hopes for Milestone. But it’s not top secret that the Milestone is set to be released sometime in March by Starhub. And I am also waiting for the fabled Nexus 2 that comes with a physical keyboard.

Dziś chciałbym poruszyć temat z początku tego roku czyli wypuszczenie ze stajni HTC nowego telefonu skrojonego pod Androida i z metka google 
Na początku tak mi się spodobał że gdybym napadł na bank lub miał trochę wolnej kaski w skarpecie to bym właśnie ten telefon sobie kupił Przebolałem te kilka dni i doszedłem, poczytałem newsy że już google planuje wypuścić kolejny telefon i na dzień dzisiejszy moim faworytem jest Motorola Droid ( w USA zwana Milestone). Dodam jeszcze że mona Nokia N80 najlepsze dni ma za sobą (2,5 roku) i jestem zmuszony przeskoczyć niebawem na nowe cacuszko. Pierwsze kroki udałem na era.pl gdzie można znaleść ERA G2 z paczka 500MB i abo 85zł x 24mc + aparat 99zł. Oferta dobra lecz co ja zrobię ze 120minutami kiedy teraz 55 nie udaje mi się nigdy nawet w połowie wykorzystać
LG says it’s betting heavily on Android (s goog) to help the handset maker build its smartphone business, a move that contrasts starkly with last year’s vow to make Microsoft’s (s msft) Windows Mobile its primary operating system. But in doing so, LG joins a small army of fellow manufacturers that have shifted their focus away from Microsoft’s mobile OS — among them HTC , Sony Ericsson (s sne) (s eric), Motorola (s mot) and Palm (s palm) — and, with the lone exception of Palm, toward Android. And the revelation comes on the heels of rumors that the launch of Windows Mobile 7 may be pushed back yet again, to 2011.
In the meantime, as the mobile skies continue to darken over Redmond, we’ve compiled a few ideas that could get Microsoft back in the game:
As we’ve said before, it may simply be too late for Windows Mobile to re-emerge as anything but a niche play for a small number of business users. If the gang in Redmond has begun taking mobile seriously, though, it should consider some of these ideas as a way to regain relevance in the increasingly competitive smartphone space.

2. product? How about just copying the blackberry and putting our reverse Motorola logo on it?

Our phones have become a part of our lives. We no longer use them primarily for making phone calls or recieving SMS messages, but instead we use them as portable entertainment centers, mobile browsers, and even an office to go. With this in mind I ask you, is your phone up to the standards of your busy life? Or is it not giving you the justice your fingers deserve?

The Nexus one was announced today in a nice little gathering and thanks to Robert Scoble broadcasting the whole thing on Ustream me and close to 25,000 other people who were not invited got to watch it live. And although a lot of information was leaked days and even weeks before we still got some great confirmations and a few surprises.
First some of the specs (full spec list)
Again nothing we didn’t already know about and if want to read some reviews on the device and how these specs work together both Nexus One Blog and Engadet have written reviews of the two reviews I feel the Nexus One blog did a better job of presenting the facts without out expressing some unjustified biases to or against the device.
Now the phone will be sold directly from Google (again no surprise) and currently you can get an unlocked device today for only $529 which honestly isn’t that bad. Or if you don’t mind a 2 year contract with T-Mobile you can get the device for $129 with all the standard terms about eligibility applying. It seems that current T-mobile customer’s may be able to upgrade for a cheaper then $529, so contact T-Mobile today and see what it will cost you.
Now for $529 you can get the device without contract and unlocked. But keep in mind the phone currently only supports T-Mobile 3g bands in the US. You can still use it on AT&T, but the fastest you will connect is EDGE.
Speaking of support it was announced that Verizon here in the US and Vodafone in Europe will also get the the Nexus one sometime in the spring. I will of course keep my ear to the web and let you know when this support is available. And of course if you can get an unlocked phone with Verizon frequency support you can use that device on Sprint.
A completely useless yet undeniable cool thing about the device is you do have the ability to engrave the back of the phone when you order it. Of course from what I hear this adds about 72 hours to the processing time before it is ship, so if you want the phone before the weekend order it today and skip the engraving. If you want to show off the fact that your phone is beyond yours may I suggest “To [name] love Google.”
If you do want to order it today with or without the engraving head over to Google’s phone page now which always you to buy the Nexus One with or without service with T-Mobile and this spring promises the ability to order with Verizon. I would also like to note that during the presentation it was announced that other devices including some from Motorola will be sold from the store front, before Motorola is making the Nexus Two as we speak.
